What we’re known for

Two things, said plainly.

The first is the sazerac. People argue about it — ours against theirs, ours against the one down the street. Order it and take a side.

The second matters more. If nothing on the list is what you are after, say what you are in the mood for — bitter, stirred, long, no spirit at all — and a bartender will build it for you. The list is short on purpose.

Spirit-free gets the same care and the same glassware, at $12. Nobody is drinking a lemonade apologetically in this room.

The room

We kept the pharmacy’s cabinets.

I tended bar on Chartres Street for eight years. Velvet Fig opened in 2021 in a former pharmacy — the cabinets are original, and they still hold the bottles.

The rest is what the room is for: somewhere dark and unhurried to have a proper drink, five nights a week.
