Why me
Keyway is one locksmith, not a call center with a fleet. When you ring the number on this site, the person who answers is the person who is going to turn up — not a dispatcher three states away reading your address off a screen.
Two things I’ve done the same way for eleven years: I show up in under thirty minutes across the metro, and I quote the price before I drive out. That is the whole business. Everything else on this site is detail.
The price comes first
A locksmith who turns up and then names a price has you over a barrel. You are locked out, it is late, and what are you going to do — call someone else and wait another hour? I don’t work that way. You hear the price on the phone, you say yes or no, and if it is yes, the number doesn’t change when I get there.
The other half of the job is quieter than lockouts: rekeys and deadbolts for people who just bought a place, or just want to stop wondering who else has a key. Same rule — priced per lock, on the phone, before I come out.
Straight answers
People assume a lost key means new locks. Most of the time it doesn’t. Rekeying keeps the lock that is already on your door and changes the pins inside it, so a new key works and every old one stops working. It is quicker, it is from $25 a lock, and the hardware you paid for stays where it is.
Replacing makes sense when the lock itself is the problem — a deadbolt that has given up, a door that never had one, or builder-grade hardware you would rather upgrade. A new deadbolt fitted and keyed to work starts at $120. Describe the door on the phone and I’ll tell you which one you actually need before I drive.
