About the shop

It started on a porch.

Honestly, it started as a pandemic thing. Dana was baking sourdough in her kitchen and selling it off the porch, and it kind of got out of hand.

Two sisters and a lease on Kentucky Street.

First it was neighbors. Then neighbors of neighbors, then a Saturday where the porch ran out before nine. In 2021 Dana and her sister Jess opened the shop on Kentucky Street in downtown Petaluma — just the two of them, and one very early alarm.

Now there are five of us and two ovens. Two cafés in town open with our bread. The Saturday cinnamon rolls are gone by ten. And people say the sourdough is the best in Sonoma County, which we don’t know about, but we’ll take it.

Mostly it’s folks from Petaluma and Penngrove. Some drive up from Novato on Saturdays for the cinnamon rolls. We know most of them by name.

The bread

Nine dollars, still warm on Saturdays.

The sourdough is the whole reason there’s a shop. It’s baked while Petaluma is still dark and it’s on the shelf when the doors open at seven — on Saturdays, still warm. Nine dollars a loaf.

Two cafés in town take enough of it that the country loaf gets its own oven, and the sandwich shop next door slices theirs before we’ve swept the floor.

What we’re known for

The sourdough, the cinnamon rolls, and your name.

Ask around and you’ll hear the same three things. The sourdough. The Saturday cinnamon rolls, which are gone by ten. And that we remember people’s names — five of us, one small shop; it would honestly be harder not to.

In a couple of years we’d like a bigger space with room to sit down. Until then, the shop is the shop: come in, say hi, and if you need a cake, call — we’d much rather hear your voice than find a message at eleven at night.
