The shop

Two generations, one shop, since 1994.

Who runs Maple Street Cleaners, what the counter conversation is actually for, and why the price list has no asterisks on it.

Who you are handing it to

Same presses, same neighborhood.

My parents bought this shop in 1994 and I took it over in 2015. Same presses, same neighborhood, same Saturday regulars — a few of whom have been bringing in shirts for longer than I have been running the place.

What changed between those two dates is mostly nothing, and that is on purpose. The equipment that did the job then does it now. The price list is still short enough to read in one go, and there is nothing on it that turns into a different number at the till.

“We actually get the stain out, and we tell you honestly when we can’t.”

That is what we are known for, and the second half is the half that matters. Nobody enjoys being told a mark is not coming out. It still beats paying to be disappointed twice.

Thirty years, three dates

The whole history, honestly.

A rail of garments on wooden hangers in warm light.

1994

My parents bought it

They took the shop on and ran it as a family business. The presses that arrived with it are the presses still in use.

2015

It was handed on

I took it over from them. Same neighborhood, same Saturday regulars, same short price list.

Today

Open six days

Mon–Fri 7am–7pm and Sat 8am–4pm, with free pickup and delivery on anything over $30.

At the counter

Thirty seconds that decide the rest.

Most of what we need to know, you already know. Say these three things when you hand the piece over and you will get a straight answer on the spot instead of a phone call later.

  1. Point out the mark

Show us where it is rather than leaving us to find it. It takes ten seconds and it changes what gets tried first.

  2. Say what caused it, if you know

Wine, oil, ink and “no idea” are four different problems. Even a guess from you is worth more than nothing.

  3. Say when you need it back

The date decides everything else. In before ten and same-day is usually possible; if it is tight you get a yes or a no there and then.

What customers tell us

“Red wine on a cream dress. Gone. I have no idea how.”

Teresa A.

“Free pickup means I never think about it. Worth it alone.”

Ken B.

What it costs

No asterisks, and no sixth line at the till.

Five things, five numbers. Where a line says “from”, the garment decides the rest — never the day of the week and never how busy we are. Everything is priced per piece, so a bag of five is five prices you can add up yourself before you hand it over.

Not sure which line your jacket falls on? Call and describe it. We will price it before you make the trip.

Come say hello

The counter is the best place to ask.

Bring the piece in and we will look at it with you — it is far easier to say what can be saved with the garment on the counter than over the phone. If you cannot get here, call and describe it and we will do our best from the description.
